The first thing you may want to do is verify that your water meter is turning. This can be done by going to your water meter and looking for the small triangle near the center of the meter (it will be either a red, black, or white triangle). If the triangle dial is turning and you know no water is turned on anywhere, water is going through your meter toward your home.
Common leaks are toilets that don’t shut off 100% after a flush. To check this, add a few drops of food coloring to the tank (do not flush), wait 10 – 15 minutes, and see if the coloring shows up in the bowl. If you see the food coloring in the bowl, your toilet is not shutting off 100%.
Other common leaks are where connections have been made between the meter and the house, outside faucets or yard hydrants, and tree roots can break water lines.
Seven Lakes Water personnel can assist you in determining if you have a leak and can provide advice, but we cannot locate the leak for you or perform work on your side of the water meter. For assistance, please call our office between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday through Friday.
